How no-vig odds and hold are calculated

This calculator reports hold as the overround: how far the two implied probabilities add up past 100%. To remove it, divide each side's implied probability by the total. For a CS2 match priced 1.83 and 2.05, the total is 103.43%, so the hold is 3.43% and the no-vig split is 52.84% to 47.16%.

Formulas

Implied probability per side
implied = 1 / decimal odds
Market total (overround)
total = implied A + implied B
Hold
hold % = (total - 1) x 100
No-vig probability
fair A = implied A / total
Fair decimal odds
fair odds A = 1 / fair A

Worked example: Team A 1.83, Team B 2.05

Implied A / B54.64% / 48.78%
Market total103.43%
Hold3.43%
No-vig A / B52.84% / 47.16%
Fair odds A / B1.893 / 2.120

What it does not tell you: This uses the proportional method, which spreads the margin evenly. Books often load more margin on the underdog, so the true fair price of a long shot can be a little lower than shown. It is a reference price, not a prediction.

No-Vig FAQ

What is hold in CS2 betting?

Hold is the sportsbook margin built into a market. If the implied probabilities of both sides add up to 104%, the estimated hold is 4%.

What are no-vig odds?

No-vig odds remove the sportsbook margin and estimate the fair price implied by the market. They are a reference point, not a prediction.

Does a low-hold market mean I should bet?

No. Low hold means the market is cheaper to bet into. You still need match context, price discipline, and a reason to prefer one side.
